Modern kanthas generally have two layers of fabric, whereas old ones usually have more. The top layer may show signs of wear, revealing the fabric beneath, which creates gradations of colour. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOriginally, this technique was a way of turning old into new.
