Modern kanthas usually have two layers of fabric, while old ones generally have more. The top layer may show signs of wear, revealing the fabric beneath and creating gradations of colour. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOriginally, this technique was a way of turning old into new.
