Kantha is a traditional textile art, the assembly of old saris and worn fabrics produced by the women of the Bengal-Western and Bengladesh region. The fabrics are superimposed and assembled using a simple embroidery point, the Kantha point, or not forming dotted patterns. This technique gives a soft, reversible fabric, which traditionally served as a duvet for winter. The more tight and regular the point, the more heavy the Kantha, and also long to make. Modern Kanthas generally have two layers of fabrics, while the ancients generally have more. The superficial layer can show signs of use, revealing the fabric below, which gives degraded colors.
Basically, this technique made it possible to reuse the old to make new it. The assembly of colored fabrics, the choice of the color of the wire and the pioneering, the addition of saris edges is the fruit of the creativity of the craftsmanship, which gives a unique piece!
At home, use it as a bed cover or as a plaid on your sofa or your chair to add a colored touch to your interior.
Our Kanthas are machine washable, on the other hand because of the age of the textiles we recommend limiting the number of washes so as not to use the fabric more than necessary.
