Terracotta gourd shaped and painted by hand.
Only one family of Kutch craftsmen, a large district of Gujarat, still produces these typical pottery in the region. Men make the pottery, while women paint them using Engobes made from earth and sand. This family is the last to perpetuate this ancestral art.
Using the natural condensation process, the pottery is still very common in India to keep water cool. We often find at the roads of large round earth jars, covered with a damp fabric, serving as a drinking water fountain.
You can use this pottery as a decorative object or as a real bottle; If you choose the second option, we advise you to put the pottery on a piece of fabric because natural condensation may form water at the base of the gourd.
