One-of-a-kind pieceA fine figurative architectural support depicting a crowned celestial musician (Vidyadhara) holding a drum in her hands. She stands in a characteristic curved posture, as she was originally fixed between a column and the ceiling (see the last two photos). Her long veil falls behind her shoulders, evoking wings. The depiction of wings on figures is a very old tradition in Indian art.
The Vidyadharas, whose name means “bearers of wisdom”, are a group of supernatural beings in Indian religions, endowed with magical powers. They are regarded as Upadevas, or demigods. These architectural supports are a familiar sight in traditional residences, or havelis, throughout Gujarat. This particular form of wood carving represents the hereditary craft of the Hindu Suthar community, a tradition carried on mainly in the districts of Patan and Ahmedabad.
Dimensions: H 80cm x W 12cm x D 12cm
Material(s): wood
Origin: India

More about how your order is prepared
Careful, reused packaging
Your parcel is prepared in our warehouse in France. As most of our pieces are one of a kind, the packaging has to be made to measure, which takes a little longer than for standard products. The item is protected and packed in a cardboard box for the safest possible shipping.
The little extra? We reuse packaging as much as possible to reduce our impact on the planet.
collection by the carrier
Once your order has been prepared, the carrier chosen at checkout is notified and your parcel is collected the next working day.
The carriers we use most often are Chronopost, Colissimo or UPS for home deliveries. For pickup point deliveries, we offer the Mondial Relay and Chrono Shop2Shop networks.
notification from the carrier
You will then receive an e-mail from us with delivery tracking, in the form of a link to the carrier's tracking page.
