THE damchiya was the traditional chest containing the dowry that the Indian bride took with her to settle in with her husband. It was made at the request of the bride's family, in preparation for the wedding. Each piece is therefore unique.
This damchiya is special! It overflows with latus (which means top in Hindi), these wooden tassels found on certain damchiyas. Usually we find a pair or even four (under the sculpted horses), but here there are thirty! Another particularity is the two large doors, while the damchiyas often have much smaller doors. Finally, we will note the meticulous work of sculpting the feet. An exceptional, rare, old (over 80 years old) and practical piece! You can find more information about damchiya at our blog.
This is a vintage, second-hand piece, traces of use are present, which contributes to its unique character and charm.
