THE damchiya was the traditional chest containing the dowry that the Indian bride took with her to settle in with her husband. It was made at the request of the bride's family, in preparation for the wedding. Each piece is therefore unique!
This damchiya, probably from Gujarat, features two sculpted peacocks which seem to support the tray. He would be around 80 years old. You can find more information about damchiya at our blog.
This is a vintage, second-hand piece, traces of use are present, which contributes to its unique character and charm.
