Ancient Indian wedding chest carved in solid wood.

THE damchiya was the traditional chest containing the dowry that the Indian bride took with her to settle in with her husband. It was made at the request of the bride's family, in preparation for the wedding. Each piece is therefore unique!

This large damchiya features numerous sculptures, including peacocks, elephants and rose windows. We also find the artisanal work of small decorative mirrors rimmed with dented metal, a traditional art of Gujarat. There is a door and two small drawers above. This is a vintage, second-hand piece, traces of use are present, which contributes to its unique character and charm.
