THE damchiya was the traditional chest containing the dowry that the Indian bride took with her to settle in with her husband. It was made at the request of the bride's family, in preparation for the wedding. Each piece is therefore unique!
This old damchiya was typically built into the wall of the house, like a real safe. He would be around 150 years old. The feet originally did not exist, and were only added later. It features two large horses carved on the sides. Its large door and depth make it practical as a piece of everyday storage furniture. We have kept its patina intact, with khaki green touches and some barely visible golden highlights. You can find more information about damchiya at our blog.
This is a vintage, second-hand piece, traces of use are present, which contributes to its unique character and charm.
